Karen Gillan Shares Jumanji Set Photo & Video

Karen Gillan Shares Jumanji Set Photo & Video

Jumanji may not be among the most well-remembered 90s family adventure films, but its novel premise makes it ripe for continuation. Sony Pictures is bringing a new film by the same name, though according to star Dwayne Johnson (San Andreas), it will be a continuation of the original story, and not a remake.

Jack Black (Goosebumps), Karen Gillan (Guardians of the Galaxy), and Kevin Hart (Central Intelligence) will be joining Johnson in this new adventure. Reportedly, the four will play video game-like avatars for the film’s four young protagonists. Alex Wolff’s (The Naked Brothers Band) avatar will be Dr. Smolder Bravestone (Johnson). Ser’Darius Blain (Star Trek Into Darkness), Madison Iseman (Still the King), and Morgan Turner (Remember Me) will be joining him to round out the “Jumanji Juniors.”

Recently spotted by JoBlo, Karen Gillan, who plays the aptly named avatar Ruby Roundhouse, has shared a very tongue-in-cheek video about the hardships of being an actress from the Jumanji set in Hawaii. She also shared a set photo with her team of stunt-Rubies — Jahnel Curfman (who got her start on Avatar) and Emily.

Being an actress is hard…

Curfman definitely needs to go for a new fan. The slowness of the one she’s using appears to be causing at least 90 percent of Gillan’s hardships.

Worth noting — Gillan calls her team the “Three Marthas,” which seems to be the name of the girl who selected the Ruby avatar. This is likely Morgan Turner’s character since Madison Iseman’s name is credited as Bethany. Bethany seems to have gotten stuck playing as Moose Finbar (Hart) or Professor Shelly Oberon (Black). While this will likely be played for humor, it may also function as a cry out for more female avatar representation in games.

While this whole setup sounds extremely different than the original board game based adventure, we still don’t know what kind of twists the story will take. Is it possible that, like Robin Williams’ character in the original, the kids are all sucked into the world of the board game? Or does some twisted entrepreneur take it upon himself to “modernize” the sinister board game by digitizing it? What role does (prior Jonas Brother) Nick Jonas, play in the film? Do any of these details matter with a cast as fan friendly as the one on display?

Stay tuned to Screen Rant for updates on Jumanji as they hit.

Jumanji hits U.S. theaters on July 28, 2017.
