Guardians of the Galaxy 2: Michael Rooker Shares New Yondu Picture

Опубликовано: 05.12.2016

James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 looks to bring even more characters from the Marvel cosmic universe to the screen for the first time, including Ego the Living Planet and Mantis (who isn’t her usual green self, but instead is closer to her original comic look). In many cases, Gunn has tried his best to bring the comic look of the characters to life as closely as possible. One big exception to this in the original film came in the form of Michael Rooker’s Yondu; his large fin from the comics was replaced with what was essentially a metal ridge along his head.

This is being partially corrected in Guardians of the Galaxy 2, however. Rooker himself recently took to Facebook to give his fans another glimpse at Yondu’s new and improved fin. Originally revealed back in August, the new fin combines the classic look of the character with the styling that was established in the first movie. Rooker posted the picture with the caption “Yondu… Guardians Vol.2″ and no other details. Not much else was needed, however, as the black-and-white photo he held in the picture showed off Yondu’s new headgear in all of its glory.

While it’s unknown if it will be an entirely new fin in the film or just a transformed version of the model he sported in the first Guardians of the Galaxy, there will likely be some explanation as to the change in the movie. Given the level of detail Gunn puts into his movies, and the fact that there’s still at least one Easter egg that everyone’s missed in the first film, there’s no way that Gunn would put the new fin in without some story behind it.

It will be interesting to see just how Yondu’s new fin fits into the story of the movie, and whether it’s more than just a decorative piece of headgear. Looking at his fin from the first film, it’s entirely possible that it transforms into what we’ve seen for the new movie… which suggests that Gunn might have always had a larger fin in mind for Yondu at some point. Whether it’s always been there or if the new fin was added for a specific reason could actually be used to reveal more of the character’s backstory in the MCU (especially if there’s a reason that he doesn’t typically show it off).

Of course, it’s always possible that Gunn simply decided to adjust the character’s look and went for the larger fin to placate the large number of fans who asked him about it after the first movie was released. Only time will tell, especially if there’s some hidden Easter egg tied in with the new fin that fans will struggle to figure out for years.
