Gotham City Sirens: Mr. Robot Actress Wants to Play Poison Ivy

Опубликовано: 23.12.2016

There’s been talk of a Harley Quinn spinoff ever since Suicide Squad swept the box office this summer, but we found out earlier this month that the rumors are true. Margot Robbie will take over the big screen as everyone’s favorite bat-wielding bad girl with Gotham City Sirens, directed by David Ayer (Suicide Squad). Selina Kyle (better known as Catwoman) and Pamela Isley (a.k.a. Poison Ivy) will join Quinn, in a team-up that looks as if it will mirror the comics arc of the same name.

Though Robbie’s casting is obvious, given her standout performance in Suicide Squad, it’s less obvious who will play cohorts Catwoman and Poison Ivy — though we certainly have some ideas of our own. Megan Fox may be reportedly eyeing the latter role, but that hasn’t stopped other actresses from trying to get in on the action, including someone that TV fans will undoubtedly recognize.

Stephanie Corneliussen made a playful grab for the role yesterday when she posted a photo to Twitter. The picture, which features the actress sporting Photoshopped red hair, a la Isley, accompanies a caption that reads, “Can I be your Poison Ivy?” Check out the post, below:

Originally a model, Corneliussen made her acting debut with Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters and Hello Ladies: The Movie before moving on to take more TV acting jobs. The Danish actor landed a regular role on Mr. Robot after a number of guest appearances on shows like Royal Pains and The Exes, and she also appeared as the character Valentina Vostok in DC’s Legends of Tomorrow.

Because of her role in Legends of Tomorrow, Corneliussen is no stranger to the DCEU, and her cold-blooded portrayal of Vostok would make her a good match for Poison Ivy’s more villainous moments. Her character in Mr. Robot, Joanna Wellick, has her own terrifying moments, as she acts like somewhat of a Claire Underwood to her husband Tyrell (without the love or mutual respect). It would be awesome to see the role of Ivy go to a newcomer like Corneliussen, though perhaps the biggest obstacle for the actor would be her notable European accent. One could also make the case that, while Poison Ivy is undoubtedly an attractive woman, as she often plays a femme fatale-like role in the comics, it would potentially be more refreshing to see the bombshell part go to an actor who doesn’t conform to Eurocentric beauty standards. If the 2004 Catwoman solo film could shake up the comics canon, after all, why not Gotham City Sirens?

No matter what, it will be exciting to see who lands this coveted part, as Poison Ivy is a complex and duplicitous character. Between the prospect of this intriguing role and a potential romantic link between Ivy and Harley Quinn (if Gotham City Sirens follows the comics arc of the same name, that is), this really is the casting news to follow. Think Corneliussen should seriously pursue the role, or have another actor in mind? Sound off in the comments.
